DCW acquires assets of national electrical recycling company as part of strategic UK expansion

DCW has acquired the assets of electrical recycling company South West Computer Recycling.

After Somerset-based South West Computer Recycling, trading as WEEE Disposal, went into liquidation, DCW acquired its assets, allowing it to extend the reach of its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling service nationwide. Customers of WEEE Disposal will also now have access to DCW’s portfolio of other Zero to Landfill services which cover all types of waste from confidential data to clinical waste, plastic to glass recycling.

The move means that DCW has acquired 800 new active clients which comes after the Zero to Landfill firm grew by 27% in 2021 with a turnover of £15million.

DCW Managing Director, Simon Almond, said: “Electronic waste is a major issue in the UK which needs to be tackled and we are delighted to be at the forefront of the challenge by offering our WEEE recycling service nationally. Acquiring the assets of WEEE Disposal allows us to deliver our Zero to Landfill solution to companies nationwide and as far as Scotland. Integration of WEEE Disposal into the DCW operation allows us to enhance our proposition and is part of our strategic expansion nationally.”

Simon continued: “The UK is the second largest producer of WEEE in the world which is alarming. Electronic waste is not only incredibly valuable as it contains raw materials such as gold, silver and copper, but it’s also detrimental to the environment if it ends up in landfill. Our expansion will allow us to help even more companies recycle their WEEE responsibly, making a positive different to the rate of WEEE recycling in the UK.”

The new clients all benefit from DCW’s sustainable approach to waste collection and recycling. DCW was the first waste management company to introduce a Zero to Landfill solution in the South West, ensuring that all materials that can be recycled, are.

Emptying 10,000 bins per week with over 70 vehicles in its fleet, DCW collects mixed waste from its clients in a single vehicle, reducing the number of journeys made and minimising its CO2 emissions. Each time a bin is emptied, around 3.04kg of CO2 is emitted, so collecting waste in a single bin, rather than separating it into different containers, reduces CO2 emissions.
