Data Protection Law in the New Normal – How DCW can help you comply!
Hooray! Last week, Boris Johnson and the UK Government confirmed that pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels and other hospitality businesses in England can reopen from 4th July – news that we all welcome! As part of the reopening process, the hospitality industry has been asked to help the Government with it’s Test and Trace programme by collecting visitors’ details so they can be contacted if an outbreak occurs. Subsequently, it’s really important that your business complies with Data Protection law while collecting contact details for your customers.
The Government website states:
“The opening up of the economy following the COVID-19 outbreak is being supported by NHS Test and Trace. You should assist this service by keeping a temporary record of your customers and visitors for 21 days, in a way that is manageable for your business, and assist NHS Test and Trace with requests for that data if needed. This could help contain clusters or outbreaks.”
It’s crucial – and a legal requirement – to ensure that when you’re disposing of personal data, it’s handled responsibly to avoid the prospect of a damaging data breach and ensure you comply with GDPR regulation. Don’t worry – DCW is here to help you comply.
